Werner Michael
Werner Michael (born December 9, 1949 in Tröbitz ; † December 1, 2003 there ) was a German badminton player .
Career
Werner Michael learned to play with the shuttlecock in his place of birth at the local activist Tröbitz association . He won a silver and a bronze medal at the GDR junior championships and the GDR junior team championship before he became a regular in the Tröbitzer league team in 1970. This year he and the team won the 11th team title for the series champion from Niederlausitz. In the following season it was enough for the Tröbitzer only to silver, as in the 1973/1974 season. In the following years Werner Michael was no longer able to assert himself against the club's internal competition for the regular places in the 1st team and had to be content with a place in the Tröbitzer GDR league team. However, he remained loyal to the sport of badminton for his entire life, and in 2000 he even played again in the BVT-A team . On November 17, 2002, he played his last badminton competition in the fourth team of BV Tröbitz against RSV Teltow, before cancer made it impossible for him to exercise. As a result of this ailment, he died eight days before his 54th birthday on December 1, 2003.
