Roland Riese (born November 10, 1949 in Tröbitz ) is a former German badminton player . His younger brother is Gerhard Riese , who also won medals in badminton.

Career

In his birthplace Tröbitz he learned the badminton game in the BSG activist Tröbitz . With this club he fought for all his national successes, including seven junior titles and three GDR team titles among adults. In the 1970s he was a member of the GDR national team . At the beginning of the 70s he also celebrated his greatest sporting successes. In the season 1969 / 1970 he won the doubles title along with Klaus Katzor , which they were able to defend in the following season. A year later he fought for the mixed title together with Monika Thiere , which they also won again a year later. In 1976 he also won at the international level at the Hungarian International in men's doubles. He played 182 point games in the first team for his home club and thus ranks second behind Joachim Schimpke in terms of the number of games . His sporting career came to an abrupt end in mid- 1983 when he sustained a serious meniscus injury, the badminton racket forever had to hang up and limit his activities to working as a coach in the youth field.

Today Roland Riese lives in Tröbitz and is still a coach in badminton active.
