Frank-Thomas Seyfarth (born December 8, 1952 in Gera ) is a former German badminton player .

Career

He learned to play with the shuttlecock in his hometown at the local club Lok Gera. Up to the junior age he could not win a single medal at GDR championships - only after his move to progress Tröbitz did his series of successes begin. In the same year of the move, he finished silver with the Tröbitzer team in the GDR league . At the end of the season he earned two more silver medals at the GDR student championships . In the following two years there was again silver with the team. The GDR student championships in 1979 once again proved to be a good place for Frank-Thomas Seyfarth: He fought his way to the top podium in both men's singles and doubles. In 1980, the first medals at the GDR individual championships followed - and not too close: he came third in all three disciplines. In the next few years he had a subscription to the bronze rank - six more third places followed, paired with two silver medals in the men's doubles.

In 1984 he crowned his sporting career by winning the men's double title together with Jens Scheithauer in front of a home audience in the Tröbitzer Glückauf sports hall. In 1987 he left the Tröbitzer Club to continue working in his native town.

Frank-Thomas Seyfarth still lives in Gera today and continues to be active as a coach, especially in the youth field. He is also politically active for the FDP and is a board member of the FDP district association Gera and a member of the Gera city council.
