The Cox's Bazar Airport ( Bengali কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দর ) is the national airport of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh .
Location and directions
The airport is about two kilometers west of downtown Cox's Bazar.
history
The airport, like some other airports in Bangladesh, was built during World War II . During this time it served as a base for the Royal Air Force against the Japanese-occupied Burma .

planning
In the future, the airport is to be expanded to become the fourth international airport in Bangladesh. This includes, on the one hand, the extension of the single runway to 3000 meters, and on the other hand, the expansion of the parking areas for large aircraft . In addition, the establishment of more modern navigation systems, such as an instrument landing system (ILS), is planned.
According to active NOTAM 2016 / C0004 from January 25, 2016, construction work is currently taking place to extend and widen the runway.
Incidents
- On March 9, 2016 Airport crashed while go-test, three kilometers west a cargo plane of the type Antonov An-26B of True Aviation (indicator S2 AGZ ) from. Before that, the take-off had been continued on one engine despite the loss of thrust. After the engine was switched off, the master took off again on the approach for unknown reasons; this resulted in a stall . Of the four crew members, only the navigator survived.
