Cox's Bazar ( Bengali : কক্সবাজার , Kaksabājār ) is a city in Bangladesh with 167,477 inhabitants. It is located over 150 km south of the port city of Chittagong on the Bay of Bengal and is the administrative seat of the Cox’s Bazar district .
With its nearby 120 km long sandy beach, it is a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists and thus the largest seaside resort in Bangladesh. Cox's Bazar is also known for its fishing .
The city was named after the British officer Hiram Cox who worked for the East India Company ; Lieutenant Cox died there in 1798.
The largest refugee camp in the world, the Kutupalong refugee camp , is also located in Cox's Bazar.

Transport and infrastructure
There are ferries to St. Martin's Island in the south and there is an airport with flights to the capital Dhaka . A connection from Cox's Bazar to the Bangladesh Railway operated Bangladeshi railway network is planned. On September 28, 2016, plans were presented according to which a 102-kilometer-long railway line would be built between Cox's Bazar and the Dohazari railway station near Chittagong. The financing is to take place in part through a loan from the Asian Development Bank .
In Cox's Bazar, the land port is of Bangladesh to the SEA-ME-WE-4 - submarine .
Attractions
The city beach, which is one of the longest in the world, is popular with tourists. Other attractions include the Himchari National Park , a small nature park south of the city, the Aggmeda Chyang Buddhist monastery and the Dulhazra Safari Park . Due to the relative proximity of the border with Myanmar , Buddhist places of worship are much more common than in the rest of Bangladesh.
