The Watsonville Municipal Airport ( english Watsonville Municipal Airport ) is a public airport five kilometers northeast of the center of Watsonville , a city in Santa Cruz County in California . The airport area covers 134 hectares and there are two runways .
history
The US Navy took over the site in July 1943, bought an additional 14 hectares of land and built operating buildings and a concrete apron. On 23 October 1943, the airport as an auxiliary airport Watsonville was ( English Naval Air Station Auxiliary (NAAS) Watsonville put into operation). The airport acted as a satellite for Naval Air Station (NAS) Alameda. With the end of the Second World War, the operation of the NAAS Watsonville ended on November 1, 1945, and the military flight operations were given up. In March 1946, the site was taken over by the city of Watsonville and released for civil use.
Facilities
The longest runway at the airport is 02/20 with a size of 1372 m × 45 m. The runway 09/27 with dimensions of 1219 m × 30 m is mainly used when fog is approaching from nearby Monterey Bay , or when the prevailing wind direction makes it necessary.
The airport is uncontrolled. The airfield is located in Control Zone C of Monterey, which coordinates arrivals and departures.
Instrument approaches
Runway 02 has three instrument approach procedures:
- Localizer, a simplified ILS method that shows the lateral deviation, but does not have a vertical guide (glidepath) of the approaching aircraft.
- RNAV (GPS)
- VOR / DME procedure
