The Alessandria airfield ( Italian Aeroporto di Alessandria “Massimo Bovone” ) is an Italian airfield in the Piedmont region . It is located on the northern outskirts of Alessandria .
Infrastructure and use
The airfield has a 640 meter long grass runway with the orientation 03/21. To the west of the airfield there are partly asphalt aprons, hangars and other handling facilities. The airfield is used for general aviation , it is operated by the Aero Club Alessandria , which also maintains a flight school on site .
history
The airfield was opened in 1916 as a military airfield and was used to operate airships . The airship hangar was dismantled after the end of the First World War, and the airship anchoring device is still in the southeastern area of the airfield. The place immediately south of a barracks was then used for military purposes, but was also used for civilian purposes, especially by the local aero club. Its flight school also trained pilots for the airline Alitalia between 1985 and 1989 .
