The airfield Holzkirchen was an air base of the Air Force of the Armed Forces .

location

The airfield was located south-east of Holzkirchen, conveniently located on today's federal motorway 8 , then Reichsautobahn 26 in the area of ​​the municipality of Warngau .

history

Shortly before the capitulation of the end of April 1945, only three machines of the type Bf 109 on the air base of the Air Force stationed.

In 1945 the site was taken over by the USAAF as Airfield R.93 and continued to be used as a military airfield .

Intermittent use

During the Cold War, sent in 1950 from here to the station Holzkirchen the program of Radio Liberty on shortwave and medium wave to Eastern Europe. The transmitter was shut down and dismantled in 2003.

Todays use

The municipal waste management VIVO of the district of Miesbach has been housed on parts of the former airport site since 1995 .
