The airfield Lugo ( it .: Aeroporto di Lugo Villa San Martino ) is located in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna , about five kilometers southwest of Lugo and about ten kilometers northeast of Imola in the village of Villa San Martino.

Infrastructure and use

The airfield, located in the Po Valley , not far from the A14dir motorway , has an 800-meter-long asphalt runway (03/21). West of the runway is an asphalt apron with a heliport and a few hangars. The airfield is primarily used for general aviation . It is operated by the local aero club, which also has a flight school with an attached “National Helicopter Flight School ” (including a flight simulator ).

history

The airfield was laid out by the Aero Club Lugo in the late 1960s. At first it only had one grass runway, which was paved in the late 1980s. Over time, the hangars, a control tower, a restaurant and other facilities were built. In 2009 the aviation club, which is named after the Lugo-born flying ace Francesco Baracca , received a Lockheed F-104 , and in 2011 a Fiat G.91 . The two decommissioned military aircraft are exhibited on the northern part of the apron. Various smaller air shows were held at the airfield .
