The airfield Peine-Eddesse was a German airfield at Peine in southeastern Lower Saxony .

It is located 4 NM north of the city of Peine between Hanover Airport and Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport in the district of Edemissen , Eddesse district .

history

The airfield at Berkhöpen was opened as a private company in 1958 by Günter Grassmann, owner of a tool factory in Eddesse. Flight operations took place every day all year round; Sightseeing flights could be booked in the restaurant at any time. The Peine-Eddesse airfield was characterized by its special atmosphere and the difficult approach. Wind shear due to the adjacent forest and various tree clearings repeatedly presented the approaching pilots with challenges.

Peine-Eddesse airfield has been closed since April 12, 2010. According to the state authority for road construction and transport, the operator's heirs cannot come to an agreement among themselves.

In September 2012, a car slalom of the Peine Motorsport Club took place on the grounds of the airfield.

location

The airfield was located between the districts of Berkhöpen, Eddesse and Klein Eddesse west of Kreisstraße 6.

use

The airfield was mainly approached by private pilots . There was also a fire brigade air service base on the site . The runway was approved for aircraft up to 2000 kg in weight, up to 3000 kg after prior approval by the flight control . Towards the end of its operating time, the use of the airfield was restricted in several stages:

  • NOTAM E1728 / 2008: Night flight was no longer possible from October 8, 2008 until further notice; the general use of the airfield was dependent on the operating times.
  • NOTAM E0277 / 10: Since January 2010, the space could only be used after prior registration.
  • NOTAM E1120 / 10: The airfield was closed with immediate effect on April 12, 2010 until further notice.

The site has been used privately since it was closed. Entering the area for the public has been strictly prohibited by the operator.
