As flight fruit in are food -Distribution fruit referred to by aircraft were transported from the producing region to the consumer. The advantage of the short transport times is that the fruits can be harvested ripe and quickly put on the market , while other exotic fruits are harvested unripe, transported by ship and then ripen in the country of distribution (possibly supported by adding ethene to the air of the storage room).

Since flying fruit is an "ancillary freight" for the planes, the offer can vary considerably depending on the allotment and season.

In particular, those types of fruit that perish relatively quickly or whose quality can be significantly increased through rapid transport are transported as flying fruit . These include in particular:

• Lychees
• pineapple
• Bananas
• mango

Flying fruit has only a small market share and is mostly only available in delicatessen shops because of its higher price .
