The Fontaine Colbert is a fountain at house number 6 rue Colbert in the 2nd arrondissement of the French capital Paris .

Since 1925 the fountain has been protected as a monument ( Monument historique ).

history

The fountain was built in 1708 according to plans by the architect Jean Beausire to supply a Hôtel particulier with water. It was sold to the city as early as 1723 and then used as a public water supply. It is not known since when the well has not been in operation. Since it was inserted into the facade of the house, only the triangular gable with the coat of arms of Paris and the bronze water spout, consisting of a mascaron in the form of a satyr , remind of the fountain.
