Fontane Park in Teupitz

The Fontane Park is a green space in Teupitz , a town in the district of Dahme-Spreewald in Brandenburg . It is named after the writer Theodor Fontane , who visited the city in 1862 and 1874.

Location and facilities

The park is located northwest of the city center south of the parish road from the market place in a northwesterly direction to a peninsula leads on in the Middle Ages one the Teupitz Castle stood. It is bordered to the south by Lake Teupitz and to the east and west by private properties. With a length of around 80 meters and a width of around 50 meters, its area is 0.4 hectares , some of which include parking spaces for vehicles. The remaining area is planted with deciduous trees and shrubs. A walkway leads from the eastern entrance to the lake to a pier.

history

The park was inaugurated on September 28, 1928, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Fontane's death. On the 40th anniversary of the GDR , the Berlin stonemason Gerhart Kleinert , who was also chairman of the Teupitz fishing club, set up a boulder with the inscription Fontane-Park in the south-eastern area of the park . On the back it bears the inscription VMI DAV OG Teupitz I 1989 ( national economic mass initiative of the local group I of the German Angler Association). Previously, the members of the club had prepared the place in the past two years. In 2003 the city redesigned the green space for 165,000 euros. Children's play equipment was set up and parking areas were set up. On the occasion of a medieval festival in the same year, the mayor put a plaque on the front with the following inscription: “In memory of the storming of Teupitz by the old Pankgrafenschaft in 1928/2003”. This refers to a knight ride of the Pankgraves to Teupitz in 1928, in which the then Teupitz rifle king and Berlin restaurateur Carl Keller took part.
