The song Fools (English for 'fools') is a song by the British hard rock band Deep Purple , which was first released in 1971 on their album Fireball .

Emergence

The piece was written between 1970 and 1971 during the tour for the album Deep Purple in Rock and was refined in the studio. It was recorded during the year-long work on the album Fireball . It was written and recorded in the so-called Mk II line-up.

music

The title begins with an instrumental, calm and melancholy section, to which Ian Gillan sings softly and soulfully. After 1:40 the piece develops into the usual hard and progressive song in which Ian Gillan uses his "scream song". In the solo part, Blackmore's cello-sounding guitar is accompanied by Paice's drums. The song then increases in intensity and ends after the finale with Jon Lord's organ.

Live versions

The song was played many times during the tour for the album Fireball and appeared again and again on the band's setlist afterwards .

Soundtrack

Fools served in 1974 as the soundtrack for the ZDF series Der Kommissar , episode 68, Domanns Murderer and in 1976 for the television series Tatort , episode 68, Abendstern and in 1977 in the television film Die Vorstadtkrokodile .
