Fireball ( English for 'fireball' ) is the fifth studio album by the British rock band Deep Purple , which was produced between September 1970 and June 1971 and released in September 1971. The second album by the "Mk II" line-up is considered one of the band's classic albums. It is their "most progressive hard rock album" and is seen as a trailblazer for heavy metal .

The album, which is more experimental than its predecessor, contributed to increasing the international awareness of the band. Fireball reached top positions worldwide, including the top of the English and German charts. Strange Kind of Woman , the single for the album, reached number 8 on the UK charts. On July 26, 2001 Fireball was awarded the gold record .

Bonus tracks (25th Anniversary Edition)
In 1996, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Fireball's release, the album was digitally remastered and re-released with nine bonus tracks. Except for The Noise Abatement Society Tapes , all additional songs were written by Blackmore, Gillan, Glover, Lord and Paice.
