Abandon is the 16th studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple . It was released in June 1998 by EMI Records (worldwide) and CMC International ( USA ).
history
The album is the second with Steve Morse and the last with the band's founding member, keyboardist Jon Lord . As with the previous album Purpendicular , the band chose a play on words as the title, which can also be understood as A Band On (for example: "a band (continues)"). It was continued on tour with A Band on Tour . This brought the band back to Australia for the first time in 15 years in 1998/99 . In 1999 the live album and DVD Total Abandon: Australia '99 , which was recorded in Melbourne on April 20, 1999, was released. Abandon was stylistically heavier than previous albums.
reception
The Allmusic website awarded 3 out of 5 stars. Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the band is "not as young and energetic as it was before, but they are willing to try new material, which cannot be said about all hard rockers from the 1970s." Steve Morse's entry "revitalized" the band.
