The Battle Rages On ... is the 14th studio album by Deep Purple . It was released in July 1993 by BMG Records (worldwide) and Giant Records ( USA ).

history

The album is the last with the classic Mk. II line-up, who had reunited for the second time. 1984 Perfect Strangers was recorded with this line-up. Singer Ian Gillan , who returned to the band in late 1992 after being kicked out in 1989 - after the previous album was recorded with Joe Lynn Turner - revised the material that had already been written for the album. Ritchie Blackmore left the band on the tour in November 1993 - Joe Satriani stepped in as a temporary replacement.

reception

The Allmusic website gave 2 out of 5 stars. William Ruhlmann pointed out that in 1993 there was no market for Deep Purple's music. The songs were partly closer to Def Leppard than to Deep Purple.

Otherwise the album received mostly moderate to positive reviews. Michael Lorant from Metal-Hammer magazine spoke of a "great album", particularly emphasizing the pieces Anya and Solitaire as well as the title track The Battle Rages On .

Matthias Breusch from Rock-Hard magazine also praised the title track and spoke of a "melodically appealing number interspersed with intelligent break passages that seem unspent, which would become a classic for die-hard supporters and" Perfect Strangers "owners alike should. " However, he criticized the otherwise low hit density and the fact that the band could not follow albums like The House of Blue Light . He advised readers to listen to the album for themselves to get an idea of it.
