Fools Gold is a song by the English musical group The Stone Roses . It is considered the most famous song of the group and one of the most important songs of the Madchester movement. Fools Gold was written by John Squire and Ian Brown .

Originally the song was intended as the B-side of What The World Is Waiting For , but the single was released as a double A-side due to the very positive reactions to Fools Gold.

Compared to the Stone Roses' previous melodious , guitar-heavy songs, Fools Gold was more dance- inspired and fitted well into the burgeoning Madchester genre.

Fools Gold became the Stone Roses' first top ten hit in the UK Top 40 in 1989 . The song later reached the UK Top 40 several times. Fools Gold was not released on any official Stone Roses studio album. The song can be found on the US version of The Stone Roses (album) as well as the compilations Turns into Stone , The Complete Stone Roses and The Very Best of The Stone Roses .

The meaning of the song

Fools Gold is the English name for fool's gold . According to an interview in the British magazine Melody Maker , the song is about greed .
