Forces de defense congolaise

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forces de défense congolaise (short: FDC ; nickname Guides ) are a militia in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It was founded around 2010 and primarily fights the Forces Démocratiques de Liberation du Rwanda (FDLR). Since she was able to achieve successes unusually quickly, it is believed that she is supported by the Rwandan Military Intelligence Service or the Congolese Army (FARDC).

origin

Originally the FDC was a group of young men of the Bahunde and Banyanga ethnic groups, who mainly carried out reconnaissance activities for the Congolese army and militias from May to May against the FDLR. Hence the nickname "Guides".

Since 2011 they have developed into a combat group. They are led by Luanda Bandu, who is allegedly close to Bosco Ntaganda , and are armed with assault rifles , rocket launchers and satellite telephones .

Events

On November 27, 2011, the FDC captured the village of Kimua and the surrounding areas. This is located in the immediate vicinity of the military headquarters of the FDLR and was also one of the most important sources of supplies up until then. The FDLR then launched retaliatory measures. According to community chief Mwami Lukonge, 46 deaths, including 19 beheaded, and more than 20,000 displaced families.

On December 25, 2011, members of the FDC attacked the village of Ntoto . This is located near the military FDLR headquarters of Interim President Gaston Iyamuremye (battle name: "Rumuli"). There was a gun battle with FDLR members in the market, in which a girl and a militiaman of the FDLR died. On January 5th, the FDLR recaptured the village. According to the Mission de l'Organisation des Nations Unies en République Démocratique du Congo (MONUSCO), around 1,000 people fled the fighting in a makeshift camp around a military base of Indian UN soldiers.

On January 11, 2012, Leodomir Mugaragu , chief of staff of the FDLR, was allegedly killed by a joint command of the FDC and Rwandan special forces in the military headquarters of the FDLR. The Rwandan government, however, rejected any responsibility.

In late January, 70 people were killed in fighting between the FDC and the FDLR in Masisi and Walikal. About 75,000 people from 30 villages were on the run.

According to the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), they have looked after around 20,000 people since the fighting in November in early February 2012.
