The Detmolder Turnverein von 1860 eV , also DTV 1860, is the largest multi-discipline sports club in the East Westphalian city of Detmold with around 1,000 members. The club was founded in 1860, making it the oldest sports club in Detmold.

history

The founding of the club goes back to the Göttingen gymnasts Gebhart and Riemegk, who proposed the foundation of a gymnastics club to the Detmold City Council in 1860. Since the first German gymnastics festival in Coburg had just run successfully , Detmold's mayor Georg Heinrich Meyer agreed to the proposal and on September 6, 1860, the establishment was announced in the Fürstlich-Lippischen government and announcement sheet . On September 14, 1860 the association already had 46 members. In 1882 the so-called "old team" for senior sports was founded, in 1890 the youth department. In line with this, the Klingenberg company required its apprentices and young people to do physical exercise. In 1899 the women's department was added, initially with 33 members.

Since the newly built gymnasium of the grammar school could no longer be used by the DTV from 1908, a fund was set up to build a separate hall. Until 1912, sport still took place in the old gym, which was bought by the Klingenberg company and made available to the club for use. The construction of the new hall began in 1912, the property was a gift from Prince Leopold IV . The First World War left clear traces on DTV, 258 club members were at the front, 34 died, and many returned injured. As a result, the schoolchildren's department was founded. In 1936 the umbrella organization of the civil gymnastics clubs, the German Gymnastics Association , was dissolved and the Detmold gymnastics club was incorporated into the Reichsbund for physical exercises . When this was dissolved after the end of the war, the assets of the DTV were blocked by the British military government .

All Detmold clubs were merged on April 30, 1946 to form the Detmold Gymnastics and Sports Association. From September 2, 1947, there was finally a Detmold gymnastics club from 1860 , which from 1948 also received the blocked assets back. In 1958 the young gymnasts achieved their first tournament victory at the German Gymnastics Festival in Munich , a success that was repeated in 1963. The old gymnasium was demolished on November 1, 1963, and a new building and a youth home were built from 1966 to 1968. In 1971 the number of 1000 members was exceeded, in March 1978 the mark of 1245 members was reached. On December 5, 1983, the club's youth warden Hugo Beckmann received the Federal Cross of Merit . Nowadays, the DTV participates in the state performance center for artistic gymnastics in Detmold.

In the Department of Gymnastics was Nadine Jarosch from their manager Michael Gruhl to the 2012 Olympic Games in London prepared. In 2011, Nadine Jarosch was elected Gymnast of the Year of the Westphalian Gymnastics Federation for the third time after 2007 and 2008. The women's volleyball team rose to the 3rd division west in 2017 , but promptly rose again as bottom of the table .
