Forcipomyia eques is a mosquito fromthe midges family (Ceratopogonidae).
features
The mosquitoes have a body length of 0.8 to 1.2 millimeters. Mesonotum and scutellum are dark, the legs are light brown. Their tarsi are greatly expanded at the base and have an empodium between their claws. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs carry a spur. The wings are densely haired with macrotrichiae, the microtrichiae are tiny. The antennae of the males have 15 segments.
Way of life and distribution
The animals are found in northern and central Europe and in North America. The females feed by sucking hemolymph on reticulated winged birds (Neuroptera).
