Hans Ulrich Stöckling

Hans Ulrich Stöckling (born January 6, 1941 in Gossau ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

From 1947 to 1960, Stöckling attended primary and secondary school in Uznach and the cantonal school in St. Gallen , where he completed the type B Matura . He then studied for seven years at the University of Zurich and one semester at the Free University of Berlin . During his student days he became a member of the Swiss Zofinger Association . In 1969 he graduated as a lawyer . From 1980 to 1987 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen , from July 1, 1988 Government Councilor of the Canton of St. Gallen and was in charge of the education department. In the same year he was President of the University Council of the University of St. Gallen , until 2002 President of the Universities of Applied Sciences St. Gallen, Buchs and Rapperswil and member of the Swiss University Conference. For one year from 1990 onwards he was Landammann of the Canton of St. Gallen. Between 1997 and 1999 he was a member of the Swiss Science Council and in 1999 President of the University of Applied Sciences in Eastern Switzerland. From 1988 he was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss National Science Foundation for the Promotion of Scientific Research, and on January 1, 2008 he became its President.

Private

From 1977 to 1988 he was Mayor of Jona . He is married and has two sons.
