Forest was an English psychedelic folk trio that existed from 1966 to 1973.

history

The brothers Martin and Adrian Welham and their school friend Dez Allenby, all multi-instrumentalists, founded the trio "The Foresters of Walesby" in Grimsby , Lincolnshire in 1966 , which performed as a vocal ensemble in local folk clubs. In 1968 they went to Birmingham , shortened the group name to "Forest" and changed their style towards psychedelic folk. You have been invited several times by John Peel on his show. In 1969 Blackhill Enterprises took over their management and got them a record deal with Harvest Records .

In the same year their single Searching for Shadows was released , followed by their debut album Forest . The second album Full Circle came out in 1970; The Guardian counted it among the 1000 albums to hear before you die .

In 1971, Dez Allenby left the group, followed by Dave Panton (viola, oboe and saxophone) and Dave Stubbs (bass). After further live performances the band broke up in 1972. Martin Welham and his son Tom form the psychedelic folk duo "The Story".
