Forest River Inc. is an American manufacturer of buses , commercial vehicles and mobile homes based in Elkhart, Indiana .

history

Forest River was founded in 1996 by Peter Liegl. After the purchase of Cobra Industries in January 1996, where CEO Peter Liegl worked from 1985 to 1993, the company began manufacturing folding caravans and caravans, and shortly thereafter manufacturing freight trailers. The following year Forest River established a second cargo trailer line called Continental Cargo . In 1998 the offshoot Forest River Marine started producing pontoon boats . In the same year, the company bought Firan Motorhomes to start manufacturing Class A motorhomes . In 2000, Forest River acquired US Cargo, another manufacturer of commercial vehicles, and entered the bus business a year later through the acquisitions of Starcraft Bus and Glaval Bus. In 2002, Rockport Commercial Vehicles, a commercial vehicle and truck brand, was launched. In the same year, the company acquired Vanguard Industries and Palomino.

With its fast growing business, Forest River moved its corporate headquarters from its original Goshen, Indiana building to its current location in Elkhart, Indiana .

2005 Forest River, Inc. of Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. acquired.

Forest River continued to expand with the acquisition of Rance Aluminum Fabrication and Priority One Financial Services in 2007. The following year, the company acquired Coachmen RV, a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries. Coachmen offers a wide range of product brands ranging from diesel rear class motorhomes to class A motorhomes, class C motorhomes, caravans, tent campers and sports trailers.

Prime Time Manufacturing, which builds travel trailers, was founded in 2009, followed by the revival of the Shasta product line in 2010.

In 2011, Forest River acquired Dynamax Corporation, which builds luxury motorhomes (Super Class C and Class C).

In 2014, the company continued to expand, adding manufacturing facilities in Silverton, Oregon, Hemet, California , and White Pigeon, Michigan. In the same year, the company acquired StarTrans Bus.

In 2016, Forest River Marine added the Trifecta Pontoon line.

In January 2017, Forest River launched its new line of luxury buses, Berkshire Coach .

In May 2020, Forest River acquired the following REV Group shuttle bus brands : Champion, Federal Coach, World Trans, Krystal Coach, ElDorado, and Goshen Coach .

Coachman RV

Coachmen RV

Coachmen's first RV products were manufactured in a facility in Middlebury, Indiana in 1964. Since then, over three quarters of a million recreational vehicles have been produced and sold by coachmen. In December 2008, Coachmen RV became a brand of Forest River, Inc. Today, Coachmen RV is still headquartered in Middlebury, Indiana. The primary production facilities serve as special production facilities for coachmen of class A, motorhomes of class C, motorhomes of class B, caravans. Coachmen and Viking branded travel and camping trailers are manufactured in Centerville, Michigan and at their White Pigeon, Michigan manufacturing facility.

Dynamax Corporation

Dynamax Corporation was founded in 1997. Over the years, Dynamax has developed a range of recreational vehicles and a range of custom specialty vehicles and RVs. Forest River, Inc. acquired the Dynamax brand in 2011.

Dynamax builds luxury class C and Super C motorhomes.

East to West

East to West was acquired by Forest River, Inc. in 2018. The division unveiled its flagship Della Terra for conventional caravans at the 11th annual Forest River Product Expo on September 24, 2018, and later unveiled the laminated Alta caravan.

Forest River RV

Forest River RV is a division of Forest River, Inc. and initially manufactured pop-up tent campers, caravans. Forest River RV, one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America. Motorized model lines sold under the Forest River brand include: Berkshire, Charleston, Legacy, Georgetown, FR3, Forester, and Sunseeker . The caravan ranges offered under the Forest River brand include: Blue Ridge Fifth Wheel, Kardinal, Cedar Creek, Cherokee, Evo, Flagstaff, Salem, Wildwood, Riverstone, Rockwood, R-Pod, Saber, Sandpiper, Sierra, Surveyor, Vibe and Wildcat . Sport utility trailers sold under the Forest River brand include: All American Sport, XLR, WorkPlay, Cherokee, Sandstorm, Shockwave, Stealth and Vengeance . The Forest River branded camping trailers include: Flagstaff and Rockwood . Park models sold under the Forest River brand include Summit, Quailridge, and Cabins & Suites .

Palomino

The Palomino brand was founded by Vanguard Industries in Savage, Minnesota , in 1968 . In 1972 they moved their manufacturing facility to Colon, Michigan, where it still exists today. Palomino was purchased by Forest River, Inc. in 2002. Palomino has grown to become one of the top 5 RV manufacturers in North America. Palomino RV produces motorhomes and caravans.

Prime time manufacturing

Prime Time Manufacturing was founded in 2009. Prime Time Manufacturing is North America's fastest growing RV company and is currently a top 10 RV manufacturer in the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Wakarusa, Indiana, the company manufactures caravans.

Shasta

Shasta RV was founded in 1941 with the first "house trailer", which was built as a mobile military building. In the 1950s and 60s, Shasta's trailers were a legendary silhouette on America's streets.
