Forrester Harvey (born June 27, 1884 in Cork , † December 14, 1945 in Laguna Beach , California ) was an Irish actor.

life and career

Born in Ireland, Harvey worked in the UK and the United States for most of his acting career. After some theater experience, he made his first film in 1922, and by the year he died, around 115 other films for the character actor were to follow, some of which are now considered classics. He received about two-thirds of its roles a credit in the film credits. The stocky, small actor with the mustache usually embodied somewhat comical average types, and he was particularly often used as a host. After initially working exclusively as a film actor in England, he moved to Hollywood in the early 1930s, where he remained a busy supporting actor. Forrester Harvey died in Laguna Beach in 1945 at the age of 61.

Perhaps his best-known role was Harvey as Beamish in the first two Tarzan films with Johnny Weissmüller . He also took on roles in several universal horror films , including appearing alongside Claude Rains in the horror films The Invisible (1933) and The Wolf Man (1941). He had already played for Alfred Hitchcock in 1927 in the British silent film The World Champion , thirteen years later he was used again by Hitchcock in his first Hollywood film Rebecca as a bar host. He had another well-known role as the butler of Stan Laurel in the comedy In Oxford (1940). For some time, numerous sources mistakenly identified Forrester Harvey with the role of the father of the girl Maria in Frankenstein .
