Research center for folklore in the Ruhr area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Research Center for Folklore in the Ruhr Area was founded on April 2, 1935 at a meeting of folklorists in the Provincial Institute for Westphalian Regional Studies and Folklore and was initially part of its “ Folklore Commission for Westphalia ” from a administrative point of view. Wilhelm Brepohl , a German folklorist and sociologist, was the initiator and scientific director . With the program of an "industrial folklore", the research center was placed in the service of National Socialist population policy. There are continuities between social research under National Socialism and West German post-war sociology. The research center was initially located in Brepohl's apartment and then in the Glück-Auf brewery building in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf . Their last activities are documented for 1941.

With the help of the research center, continuities between social research under National Socialism and West German post-war sociology can be observed. Their existence can be classified under the subject complex of sociology under National Socialism .

The research center was one of the predecessor institutions of the social research center founded in 1946 at the University of Münster in Dortmund .
