The Social World - Journal for Social Science Research and Practice (SozW) is a sociological journal that has been published since 1949 .

It was published on behalf of the Working Group of Social Science Institutes . Until 2018, Armin Nassehi , Sabine Maasen, Irmhild Saake and Tobias Wolbring were the editors, since then these have been: Tobias Wolbring, Eva Barlösius , Silke Hans, Corinna Kleinert, Monika Jungbauer-Gans , Christian von Scheve, Jürgen Schupp , Mark Trappmann and Monika Wohlrab-Sahr . At the beginning of the 69th year there was a personnel and content reorientation of the magazine published by Nomos Verlag Baden-Baden.

The editorial team, initially at the social research center at the University of Münster in Dortmund, then for a long time at the Institute for Sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , is now at the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

In 2013, the journal was ranked 108th in the statistics of the Social Science Citation Index out of 138 journals in the “Sociology” category. The social world took a place behind the journal for sociology and the Cologne journal for sociology and social psychology and before the Berlin journal for sociology .
