Forster Musenhang

Musenhang is the name of a vineyard in the community of Forst an der Weinstrasse ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). Their vineyards cover 8.0 hectares .

Location, climate, soils

The Musenhang belongs to the Palatinate wine-growing region and here to the northern area of Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstrasse . It is a single site that belongs to the Forster Mariengarten large site . It is located entirely in the district of Forst on the Weinstrasse. The area of ​​the Musenhang is at a height of 160 to 270  m above sea level. NHN , it is 80% steep and 20% pending. The terrain rises towards the Palatinate Forest in the west, which protects the Musenhang from precipitation in its lee .

The soils of the Musenhang consist of loamy sand and limestone .

Surname

The first mention of the name was in 1836 as "Musenhang". The area was auctioned off by the community of Forst in 1821 - at that time still wooded - and cleared shortly afterwards. Possibly the name comes from "Musehelde" (see Deidesheimer Mäushöhle ); but since earlier mentions are missing, one can only speculate about it.
