The forest museum Waldpavillon is operated by the municipal forest administration of the city of Augsburg and is located in the district of Hochfeld . It is dedicated to the functions and tasks of the Augsburg city forest on an exhibition area of ​​200 m² .

The museum is located at the parking lot of the district sports facility south on Ilsungstrasse, not far from the Siebentischanlagen and the zoological garden . It can be reached via tram line 2 of Stadtwerke Augsburg .

The Forest Museum Waldpavillon sees itself as an environmental education facility that aims to convey topics from the fields of forest and the environment to children and young people in particular, but also to adults . Various elements of the forest - such as various tree bark or the drinking water that is extracted here - are exhibited on an area of ​​200 m². The exhibition is designed to be interactive: it invites you to touch and try it out.

In addition, the museum also houses the “Sauter Collection” of the former forestry chief Franz Sauter, who has collected a large number of floristic and faunistic exhibits over the years. The outdoor area of ​​the forest pavilion includes various biotopes , including the renatured Brunnenbach .

The forest pavilion can be explored and researched independently, but expert tours are also offered for larger groups, which can then be followed by a walk through the Augsburg city forest.

Special events

In addition to the actual exhibition, special tours and activities take place regularly in the forest pavilion that deal with various topics that are specially prepared for this. For example, it can be about visiting beaver structures or building a raft yourself.
