Fort Doyle is the ruin of a coastal fort on the Channel Island of Alderney . It was completed in 1805, in the middle of the coalition wars.
The fort was named after General Sir John Doyle, 1st Baronet (1756-1834), Lieutenant Govenor of Guernsey .
It was initially equipped with three 18 pounder guns. In 1860 the cannons were installed on platform stands. There was also an 8 " howitzer .
During the Second World War , the site was fortified by the Germans who had occupied the Channel Islands.
