The Foster Crater is the crater of a cone mountain made of pyroclastic sediments in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Royal Society Range, it rises on the northern flank of the Foster Glacier south of Highway Ridge .
The New Zealand Geographic Board named it in 1994 based on the name of the Foster Glacier. Its namesake is Major James Foster of the United States Marine Corps , assistant air operations officer of Task Force 43 of the United States Navy in Antarctica in 1960.
