Fotadrevo ( thick mud ) is a municipality ( commune ) in the Atsimo-Andrefana region in southern Madagascar , about 70 kilometers northeast of the municipality of Ejeda . In 2006 it had about 35,000 inhabitants who lived in 51 villages ( Fokontany ) on about 998 km².

The population of Fotadrevo consists largely of Tanosy and minorities from Tandroy and Mahafaly . They live mainly from growing cassava , corn , sweet potatoes , peanuts , cowpeas and onions . There is little cattle breeding and the region around Fotadrevo is not considered safe. The community has 28 elementary schools and one secondary school. Vanadium has been discovered in the municipality and the economic feasibility of mining graphite has been investigated. Because of these activities, Fotadrevo is equipped with a runway for larger aircraft.
