Foulden is a town in the south-east of the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders or in the traditional county of Berwickshire . It is located around seven kilometers north-west of Berwick-upon-Tweed in England and south of Eyemouth near the Scottish-English border. Whiteadder Water runs a few hundred meters to the south and flows into the Tweed a short distance downstream .

history

A church building on the site was mentioned as early as the 13th century. 1587 met there after the execution of Maria Stuart's negotiators of Jacob VI. and the House of Stuart . However, today's Foulden Parish Church dates back to 1786.

Due to the location in the contested Scottish-English border area, there was a Bastle House west of Foulden . The last resident, George Ramsay , died in 1592. There are no remains of the building today. For a time, Foulden was a Burgh of Barony . The historic tithe barn of Foulden is located on the western edge of the village.

In 1971 there were 106 inhabitants in Foulden.

traffic

The A6105 connects Earlston with Berwick-upon-Tweed. It forms the main thoroughfare of Foulden. At Berwick there is a connection to the A1 , which connects London with Edinburgh .
