Frédéric Chatillon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frédéric Chatillon (born February 15, 1968 in Armentières ) is a French politician, communications consultant and owner of the communications agency Riwal . Chatillon is a friend of Marine Le Pen , leader of the right-wing nationalist Front National (FN) party. He was at her side as a communications advisor and was involved in her campaign for the 2012 presidential election in France .

During his studies, Chatillon was chairman of the right-wing extremist and clandestine operating student group Groupe Union Défense or Groupe Unité Défense (German for "Union of Defense Groups") (GUD). He then headed Riwal , a service company that worked for the Front National and Marine Le Pen's small party Jeanne . He also runs a security company.

Support for the Syrian Assad regime

In the 2000s, Frédéric Chatillon began to side with the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in France . In 2006 he took part in an event against “American imperialism” in the Syrian capital Damascus , where he stood alongside the right-wing extremist comedian Dieudonné , the right-wing extremist essayist Alain Soral and the journalist Thierry Meyssan , a supporter of conspiracy theories. In 2009 he launched an advertising campaign for the Syrian government in France. At the beginning of the civil war in Syria in 2011, Chatillon's company Riwal, which also had an office in Damascus, set up a website with propaganda for the Syrian regime under the domain infosyrie.fr . Frédéric Chatillon's liaison in Syria was former Defense Minister Mustapha Tlass . Chatillon spoke out against any foreign intervention in the Syrian civil war.

Campaign Funding

In 2016, the daily Le Monde published information from the Panama Papers that Chatillon allegedly hid funds in offshore centers in Asia, the Caribbean and South America, which were used to fund election campaigns for the Front National. The aim was therefore to "escape the French anti-money laundering authorities". Marine Le Pen declined to comment on the matter. However, FN Vice President Florian Philippot stated that neither he nor Marine Le Pen owned any offshore companies.

Just before the release, Frédéric Chatillon said he had presented journalists with documents that would prove the legality of his financial activities. He had invested the profits of his Riwal company in Asia and the Front National party had nothing to do with the matter.
