Thierry Meyssan (born May 18, 1957 in Talence , Gironde ) is a French author and political activist who runs the Réseau Voltaire blog from Syria . It emerges in particular through the spread of conspiracy theories about certain contemporary historical and current political events.

Career

Meyssan grew up in a conservative, Catholic environment. After an aborted study (first theology, then political science at SciencesPo ), he was first in Catholic circles before joining the political left turned to work against discrimination of homosexuals to engage, and in 1993 appointed secretary of the social-liberal Radical Party of the Left was ; the following year he founded the Réseau Voltaire (Voltaire Network) with the declared aim of defending and promoting secularism and freedom of expression . He speculates that the attacks were planned and carried out as a false flag operation by the military-industrial complex in cooperation with the administration of George Walker Bush . According to an assessment by Manfred Schwarzmeier, he does this with the typical features of a conspiracy theory by formulating his assumptions in questions and ignoring facts that contradict his theses.

Meyssan tried with the Axis for Peace conference in Brussels in November 2005 and with a newly founded Voltaire network (after the original organization was dissolved in 2007) to make his political conspiracy theses better known in Europe and to gather supporters. The Voltaire network appears online as a blog, primarily with texts by Meyssan, in 7 languages ​​(German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish).

Meyssan increasingly represents anti- Zionist and anti-American positions and seeks proximity to well - known right-wing extremist thinkers and propagandists such as Alain Soral and Dieudonné . He has been mainly in the Middle East since the mid-2000s and is close to Hezbollah and the political regimes of Syria and Iran; during the Libyan civil war he announced his support for Muammar al-Gaddafi and in the Syrian civil war for the government of Bashar al-Assad .
