Frédéric Pham (born November 17, 1938 in Saigon ) is a Vietnamese - French mathematician and physicist who deals with mathematical physics and analysis.

life and work

Pham studied at the École polytechnique from 1957 to 1959 , where he received his doctorate in 1967 under Raymond Stora ( Singularités des processus de diffusion multiple ). During his work on his doctorate from 1961 to 1969 at the CEA nuclear research center in Saclay in the department for theoretical physics. He also attended René Thom's seminar at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES). He has been a professor at the University of Nice (Sophia-Antipolis) since 1970 and has since retired. He also taught in Vietnam (1979/80 in Hanoi ). He was a frequent guest at the Fourier Institute in Grenoble .

Among other things, he dealt with analytical singularities of Feynman integrals and formulas of the analytical S-matrix theory then current in particle physics (Landau singularities, which he addressed in the 1960s with methods of differential topology according to René Thom), singularities of systems of plane algebraic curves (1970s, with Bernard Teissier , connected with systems of differential equations of the Gauss-Manin type), the semiclassical approximation of quantum mechanics, hyperfunctions according to Saito and micro-local analysis and function theory of several complex variables.

In 1970 he was a guest speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Nice ( Fractions lipschitziennes et saturation de Zariski des algèbres analytiques complexes ).
