Fracastorius is an impact crater to the east of the front of the moon , on the southern edge of the Mare Nectaris , north of the Piccolomini crater . The rim of the crater has been severely eroded and the interior has been flooded by the lavas of the Mare , the northern rim has disappeared.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian doctor.
