Frailea buenekeri is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea buenekeri usually grows individually with depressed spherical, reddish-brown, finely dotted bodies. With a diameter of 1.5 to 4 centimeters, the bodies reach heights of 1.5 to 6 centimeters and have a strongly tuberous root. The 13 to 23 ribs are low and divided into humps. The oval areoles on it are up to 1 millimeter long. The 8 to 14 white thorns are arranged in a comb and 1 to 4 millimeters long.

The sulfur-yellow flowers sometimes have a reddish central stripe. They are 2.5 to 4 inches long and reach a diameter of 2.5 to 6 inches. The reddish-brown fruits are 1 to 2 centimeters long and 0.7 to 1.3 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Frailea buenekeri is common in Brazil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul . The first description was published in 1990 by Wolf Rainer Abraham (* 1952).

The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Frailea buenekeri subsp. buenekeri
  • Frailea buenekeri subsp. densispina

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
