François-André Isambert

François-André Isambert (born November 30, 1792 in Aunay-sous-Auneau in the Eure-et-Loir department , † April 13, 1857 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and politician.

Isambert devoted himself to the study of law and became a deputy of the colonies , and in 1818 also an advocate at the Court of Cassation in Paris. As a deputy, he distinguished himself particularly through his efforts to improve the legislative , administrative situation and the liberation of slaves within the colonies as well as through his attacks on the Catholic Church. He protested against the " Juliordonnanzen " of July 26, 1830 on behalf of the advocate class. Later he was one of the first to go to the town hall, where he was appointed director of the Bulletin des lois by the provisional government that had met . Appointed councilor at the Court of Cassation on August 27, he edited the chart reviewed by the 221 and entered the Chamber of Deputies in October 1830, first as a representative of Chartres , later as a deputy of Luçon , where he voted for the Laffitte ministry , but under the ministry Périer converted to the opposition .

Elected to the French National Assembly by the Eure-et-Loir department after the February Revolution of 1848 , he counted himself to the right-wing party spectrum in the constituent assembly . However, he was not re-elected in the legislative elections. In 1854 he converted to Protestantism .

He himself was considered a staunch opponent of the Jesuits and, as an avowed abolitionist and co-founder of the Société pour l'abolition de l'esclavage, campaigned for the liberation of slaves in the West Indian colonies of France since the 1830s .

Isambert was also the founder and long-time employee of the "Gazette des Tribunaux" and took an active part in the "Revue de législation et de jurisprudence" founded by Wolowski.

He died in Paris on April 13, 1857. His son Emile Isambert (1827–1876) devoted himself to the medical profession and emerged as the author of specialist medical works that deal primarily with tropical diseases (e.g. "Parallele des maladies générales et des maladies locales", Paris 1866) busy.
