François Biltgen

François Biltgen (born September 28, 1958 in Esch-sur-Alzette ) is a Luxembourg politician and judge at the European Court of Justice .

Life

After finishing school, Biltgen studied law . Biltgen is a member of the conservative Christian Social People's Party (CSV). In 1987 he was elected to the city council of Esch-sur-Alzette . In 1994 he was able to move into the Chambre des Députés as a member of parliament ; in the following elections he was re-elected as a member of parliament. From 2003 to 2009 Biltgen was party chairman of the Christian Social People's Party, Michel Wolter was elected as his successor . From 2009 to 2013, Biltgen was Minister of Justice, Minister for Civil Service and Administrative Reform, Minister for Higher Education Policy and Minister for Media and Communication in Luxembourg. After he applied to be a judge at the European Court of Justice , he was released from his post on April 30, 2013. Since October 7, 2013 he has been a judge at the European Court of Justice for a term of at least two years.

Controversy

In 2012, the media and communications minister came under fire for taking action against people who had made him aware of a vulnerability in a database. Instead of closing this loophole, house searches of the accused were initiated, punishing and discrediting the people who only wanted to help.
