François Boucheix

François Boucheix (born January 7, 1940 in Montcheneix , Rochefort-Montagne , Puy-de-Dôme department , France ) is a French surrealist painter and sculptor.

biography

François Boucheix grew up in the small village of Montcheneix in the mountains of the Auvergne on poor farming conditions. When he was 15 years old, his father died and he had to work to support the family. In the evenings and on days off he painted as an autodidact .

In 1960 he had his first exhibition in Tunisia, which was followed by others in France. In 1964 he signed an exclusive 5-year contract with the Parisian art dealer Bernard Bellaïche. In 1965 he exhibited together with Salvador Dalí and other well-known painters.

In 1966 Boucheix became the darling of high society. His friends and supporters included Princess Yasmine dʼOuezzan and Suzanne Bertillon. His paintings have been exhibited worldwide and bought by numerous collectors.

In 1990 Boucheix also started making sculptures, which soon came onto the market in illegal copies. In 2007 the François Boucheix Museum opened in Vichy .
