François Furet (painter)

François Furet (born January 24, 1842 in Geneva ; † March 16, 1919 there ) was a Swiss landscape painter .

Life

Between 1860 and 1865 Furet attended the École des Beaux-Arts in his hometown, where he was a student of Barthélemy Menn . Inspired and supported by this, Furet was able to undertake an annual study trip to Paris until 1900 . The sketches then formed u. a. the basis for the pictures with which he participated in various exhibitions in Switzerland and France until shortly before the turn of the century .

From 1885, Furet's works were also regularly shown in the major exhibitions of the Society of Swiss Watercolor Artists. As an employee of Auguste Baud-Bovy and Eugène Burnand , he was involved in their circular paintings of the Bernese Alps (120 m × 18 m); The 48 m long section "Lauterbrunnen Valley, Bernese Pre-Alps, Swiss Plateau" came from him . This painting was for the World's Fair in Chicago , Ill. ( World Columbian Exposition's designed) and later by a hurricane in Dublin destroyed.

As a painter, Furet repeatedly thematized his homeland around Lake Geneva or the Bernese Oberland . In 1912 he went on a long study trip to Mallorca and the coast of Spain .
