François Pérol (born November 6, 1963 in Le Creusot , France) is a French banker and former high-ranking official. He is currently (2017) CEO of Natixis .

education

Pérol attended the École des hautes études commerciales de Paris (HEC), the Science Po and the École nationale d'administration (ENA) and graduated from each.

Professional background

In 1994 Pérol became rapporteur, later general secretary of the Comité interministériel de restructuration industrial . He then headed the Treasury's Office for Financial Markets from 1996 to 1999 and was Secretary General of the Paris Club . In 2001 he became Director of Finance and Economic Development at the Treasury.

In 2002 he became Head of the Staff of Ministers Francis Mer and Nicolas Sarkozy , then Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry. Among other things, he was responsible for the rescue of Alcatel , Bull and France Telecom , and he also played an important role in the recapitalization of Alstom , which had been agreed with the European Commission . He was subsequently involved in the founding of Sanofi-Aventis , in the negotiations between the French government and the United States District Court in Los Angeles to settle the Executive Life2 case , and he also organized the sale of Ixis by the Caisse des dépôts et consignations .

Due to the collaboration with the then Minister of Economic Affairs Nicolas Sarkozy , he joined the UMP in 2004 . From 2005 to 2007 he was the managing director of Rothschild Bank . In this role he advised Philippe Dupont, CEO of Banque Populaire, on the creation of Natixis .

In May 2007 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General to the President . In this role he became “the great architect of Nicolas Sarkozy's economic program”. In connection with the Clearstream affair , the businessman Imad Lahoud accused him of arranging a meeting with Nicolas Sarkozy, which Pérol denies.

In 2009 he became CEO of Groupe BPCE , and in November 2012 he was confirmed in this position for a further 4 years.

Since September 1, 2009 he has been President of the French Bankers Association .
