The Frances Lake is a lake in Canada's Yukon Territory .

The 88 km² large lake is 130 km north of Watson Lake and 160 km east-southeast of Ross River . Frances Lake is located at an altitude of 734  m . The lake is Y-shaped. The Frances River drains the lake at its southern end. The eastern arm measures 33 km in north-south direction and is connected to the 39 km long western arm by a narrow point, the Frances Lake Narrows . East of the lake, the rise Selwyn Mountains , west to the Pelly Mountains belonging Campbell Range . The 1673  m high Simpson Tower rises between the two arms of the lake . The Yusezyu River and Anderson Creek flow into the northern ends of the arms of the lake .

The Robert Campbell Highway runs past the western shore of the lake on its route from Watson Lake to Ross River. A branch leads to the state campground Frances Lake Campground .

history

A Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) expedition led by Robert Campbell reached the lake in 1840. Campbell named the lake after the wife of George Simpson , head of the Hudson's Bay Company. Between 1842 and 1851, on the lakeshore west of the Frances Lake Narrows, there was an HBC trading post in the vicinity of a Kaska First Nation camp .
