Francesc Badenes i Dalmau (born December 2, 1859 in Alberic ( Ribera Alta ), † January 21, 1917 in Valencia ) was a Valencian poet and writer. As a poet at the end of the 19th century, Badenes was one of the leading representatives of the Catalan Renaixença in the Valencian territories.

life and work

Badenes belonged to the Lo Rat Penat group ("The Bat"), a kind of cultural association whose main objective was to spread Catalan culture in the Valencian areas. He regularly took part in the Els Jocs Florals poetry competitions in Valencia and Barcelona. In 1898 he became Mestre en Gai Saber , master of cheerful science . He published, among other things, the extensive poem Mariola and several collections of shorter poems such as Flores de Júcar , Cantos de la Ribera and Veus de naturaleza . He translated some lyric texts by Jacint Verdaguer such as Sant Francesc , Idyllis and the Cants místics from Catalan into Spanish.

The seals of Badenes refuse, in a way they even go beyond the artistic conventions of the Jocs Florals. They are characterized above all by conveying a lively feeling for the landscape and by a very calculated musicality. Badenes was also interested in philological topics and the folklore of his Valencian homeland. In 1899 he published Llegende i tradicions valencianes (1899, Valencian Legends and Traditions).
