Live and act
Francesco Corteccia lived and worked exclusively in his native city, where he was organist at San Lorenzo from 1531 . In 1539 he entered the service of the de 'Medici family and held the position of Kapellmeister at the court of Duke Cosimo I. Cristofano Malvezzi and Luca Bati (1546-1608) were among his numerous students .
Corteccia composed in the style of the Franco-Flemish school, but his works already show echoes of his Italian homeland. He created numerous secular works, including madrigals (3 volumes) and intermedia as well as other instrumental music. He also wrote sacred compositions, including motets (2 volumes), responsories (2 volumes) and lamentations (lost).
