Luca Bati

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luca Bati (* around 1546 probably in Florence ; † October 17, 1608 ibid) was an Italian composer and music teacher at the transition between the Renaissance and Baroque periods .

No baptismal document has come down to us from Luca Bati, but he described himself as a Florentine, and in his application from April 20, 1571 for the position of choirmaster at Santo Stefano in Pisa, he stated his age at 25. In the same letter he mentioned that he had been a student of Francesco Corteccia for many years . From the 1580s onwards, Bati took an active part in Florentine musical life. In 1599 he was appointed maestro di capella of both the Medici court and the cathedral of Florence . Bati is considered to be the innovator of the Florentine madrigal and thus paved the way for the works of his student Marco da Gagliano .
