Francesco Patton OFM (born December 23, 1963 in Vigo Meano, Trentino , Italy ) is an Italian religious and since 2016 curator of the Holy Land .

Life

Francesco Patton joined the Franciscan Order on September 7, 1983 and took his first vows. On October 4, 1986 he made his profession in the religious province of San Antonio and was ordained a priest on May 26, 1989 after his theological training . In 1993 he graduated in Communication Sciences from the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome.

He held various offices in his order, including General Secretary of the General Chapter in Rome (2003, 2009), General Visitor (2003), Provincial of St. Vigil in Trento (2008-2016) and President of the Conference of Provincial Superiors of Italy and Albania (COMPI ). In addition, he was involved in various tasks outside of his order, including in the priestly and pastoral council in the Archdiocese of Trento and in the diocesan press, radio and television. He was also a professor of social communication at the Studio Teologico Accademico Tridentino .

Francesco Patton was elected Custos of the Holy Land by the Definitory General, the supreme governing body of the Franciscans in Rome, and was appointed by decree of the Holy See on May 20, 2016. He is the canonical superior of the Custody of the Holy Land and bears the title of Custos (= Guardian) of the Holy Land.

Patton speaks Italian as well as English and Spanish.
