Francesco Scavullo (born January 16, 1921 on Staten Island , † January 6, 2004 ) was an American fashion photographer who was best known for his pictures on the cover of Cosmopolitan .

Life and work

Scavullo worked as a cover photographer for the Cosmopolitan for over thirty years. He determined what happened in the studio down to the last detail (from the selection to the clothing of the model). He created both female and male nudes. One of his well-known works is the depiction of the then 10-year-old Brooke Shields from 1975 , in which the model looks like a grown woman. One of his teachers was Horst P. Horst . He also photographed the images for the album cover of the band Kiss's Dynasty album . Well-known models by Scavullo were Madonna , Grace Kelly and Diana Ross , among others .
