The Wolfsküppel near Riedelbach in the Hessian Hochtaunuskreis is 545.1  m above sea level. NHN Berg in the Taunus low mountain range .

geography

location

The wolf club rises in the eastern Hintertaunus in the Taunus Nature Park . Its summit lies in the district of Weilrod between the districts of Neuweilnau in the north, Altweilnau in the north-northeast, Finsternthal in the south and Riedelbach in the west. The Weil flows northeast to north past the mountain and its tributary Niedgesbach to the southeast ; beyond the latter flowing water the horse's head rises . The Weil tributary Riedelbach runs west to northwest of the mountain .

Natural allocation

The Wolfsküppel belongs to the natural space main unit group Taunus (No. 30) and in the main unit Eastern Hintertaunus (302) to the natural space Pferdskopf-Taunus (302.6).

The Wolfsküppel is almost completely forested if you do not include the mountain saddle between it and the Judenkopf, three kilometers to the southwest , which is the natural boundary between the southern Niedgesbach valley and the northeastern Riedelbach valley. Beech trees predominate, but oaks and especially spruces are also represented.

Mining

Mining activities used to be carried out on the northeast flank of the Wolfsküppel. The mine was first mentioned in 1869 and was finally closed in 1914 due to insolvency. Finds from this pit known as Emilie II or Hexentisch (due to an adjacent rock formation) are widespread on mineral fairs , so that the mountain is relatively well known among mineral collectors. Found Cerussite , galena , malachite , Pyromorphite and quartz .

Traffic and walking

North past Wolfsküppel, the federal highway 275 runs roughly in a west-east direction from Riedelbach - south past Neu- and Altweilnau - to Merzhausen (Usingen) . From this branch off to the east of the mountain, the district road  750, which leads past it and through Finsternthal, among other places . For example, starting at these roads, the mountain can be hiked on forest paths and paths.
